What Is Our Olivia Like?

We want to be completely honest with future puppy owners and fellow breed enthusiasts alike — life with a Swiss Hound is wonderful, but just like life with any dog, it also comes with its challenges. We have had a few demanding moments with Olivia, but they are insignificant compared with the incredible amount of joy, laughter, and love she brings into our family every single day.

From Puppy Mischief to a Grown-Up Lady

As a young puppy, Olivia was exceptionally inventive — especially when it came to the safety of our shoes. For a long time, we could not figure out how she managed to open cupboards and pull out drawers all by herself. But once she reached around ten months of age, those adolescent ideas gradually disappeared, and today peace reigns in our home once again.

Swiss Hounds are deeply attached to their families. Olivia loves being with us, but she also handles being left home alone with remarkable ease. In fact, we sometimes suspect that she rather enjoys our absence, as it gives her the perfect opportunity to claim the armchair she is normally strictly forbidden to use.

A Family Member and Sauna Lounger

Olivia has an absolutely wonderful temperament. She adores children and is incredibly gentle with them, and she greets every dog we meet with great enthusiasm and a desire to make friends.

She loves sharing all our family routines with us — she has even grown fond of our sauna sessions! Or, to be more precise, she quickly claimed our relaxation lounger as her own, where she happily watches us and enjoys the peaceful atmosphere.

A Hound Through and Through

She is a hunting dog, and that is something every owner needs to keep in mind. In the forest, her natural instincts come alive, which means that absolute obedience cannot always be taken for granted.

We have learned how to work with this. In the forest, she either has the security of a long tracking line, or we rely on her dependable return. Consistency is essential for every owner, as is a collar tag with a phone number.

A Companion Worth Her Weight in Gold

The occasional tense moment in the forest is repaid a thousand times over by Olivia's endless loyalty, friendly nature, and those irresistible hound eyes that make it almost impossible to stay upset with her.
